Continued from Zaostrog...
We picked up Letti and Um from Dubrovnik and because we had rented an apartment in Split and our stuff was there we had to make the drive back to Split after picking up Letti and Um and finding them an apartment. This time it was dark and less traffic. I was able to cruise and make it in 2.5 hours and we made it home at 2am to our hotel in Split. I could do it in probablz 2 hours with the Porsche!
We woke up and made our 3rd trip to Dubrovnik met up with Letti and Um, found an apartment just outside of the old town for 100E a night. We walked the wall in Dubrovnik old town fort and stayed until the sunset. Shot some amazing pictures! I can't upload it at this internet cafe. Not sure if I can post pictures until I get back.
Yesterday we made the 4th drive back from Dubrovnik towards Split. We stopped at the Zaostrog town for a swim. On the way back I got my first speeding ticket!!! I wasn't even going that fast. I have all these cars with lots of horse power and I get my first speeding ticket doing 90 on a 70 zone in Croatia of all the places! It would have been 500 kunos but for me - an american tourist - 300 kunos (about $60). So then I let Pete drive. We drive to Brela (another small town along the coast where there is a beach voted on of the 10 best beaches according to National Geographic). Pete scuffs our station wagon against somebody's garage door trying to turn around. On that same drive he backs up into a post in an empty parking lot trying to turn around again! So now he lets me drive. Not his fault - these streets are very narrow and they have dead ends so we have to back up a lot to get out of the dead ends. I'm so glad we have wide streets back home. With Pete running into things and me getting a speeding ticket it's a good thing we paid the extra $200 for the extra insurance! The Garmin Nav has been a life saver!!! It's gotten us out of these crazy unmarked roads in Dubrovnik and Split and Zagreb. Definitely worth the $100 for the European maps SD card.
Today we drove to this town Maraska to take a day trip via boat to the island of Hvar (in a city called Jeresk) - not a terribly exciting island. Next to this island called Brae on this beach called Bol. Beautiful! We took lots of pictures. We've gone during off season so the night life here is dead. Sea food is just ok - but very expensive! I'm sticking to the meats like steak and it's good. Haven't had any spectacular meals yet.
That's it so far. We just got off our boat and found this internet cafe in Makarska.
Stay tuned...
Paul
